Destination ImagiNation team awards

On Saturday, March 3 the GFW Regional Destination ImagiNation tournament was held at Mineral Wells High School. Destination ImagiNation is a creativity and team-based problem solving competition for students in kindergarten thru college.

The regional tournament had more than 225 teams competing in five different challenges from 19 school districts. Mansfield ISD was represented by 13 teams from the following schools: Perry Elementary, Sheppard Elementary, Smith Elementary, Tipps Elementary, Lillard Intermediate, Orr Intermediate, Shepard Intermediate and Jones Middle School.

Out of the 13 MISD teams the following teams were awarded medals for placing in the top six within their challenge:
  • The Giant Munchkins from Lillard Intermediate placed 2nd in Assembly Required - technical and placed 4th in News to Me - improv 
  • The DI Joes from Shepard Intermediate placed 3rd in Coming Attractions - fine arts 
  • The Neon Fighting Gummy Bears from Orr Intermediate placed 3rd in Assembly Required - technical 
  • Makin’ Toast from Jones Middle placed 2nd in Solar Stage - scientific 
  • The Digits from Lillard Intermediate and Smith Elementary placed 1st in Solar Stage - scientific 

Due to their success at regionals two teams will represent MISD at the state competition in Corpus Christi, April 13-15, The Digits (Lillard Intermediate) and Makin’ Toast (Jones Middle).

The Digits team members are Jakob Conrad, Denae Jaksik, Beth Ruthford, Scott Sanders and Grace Schmidt.

Makin’ Toast team members are Kevin Chandlee, Matthew Hoenig, Ethan Minter and Alexander Ruthford.

Should either of these teams place 1st or 2nd in their challenge level they will advance to the Global competition in Knoxville, Tennessee the week of May 22- 26.

4th grade team “Witty Rock Stars” from Annette Perry Elementary 
competed in the improvisational challenge “News to Me.”
This team was a first-year team. Although they did not place, they put in a lot of effort.
