On June 27, the Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPNHS, announced Abraham Hall of South Grand Prairie High School (Grand Prairie, Texas) and Shelbi Vaughan of Legacy High School (Mansfield, Texas) as its 2011-12 Gatorade National Track & Field Athletes of the Year.
At the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships, Vaughan had a throw of 198 feet, nine inches, that set the national high school and junior records in the discuss throw. She also won the discuss throw at this year's 5A state championships. She finished 4th in the Women’s Discus Throw at the Olympic Trials in Oregon last month.
